OUR TEA TINS

There’s more to our Award Winning 100% recyclable tea tins than meets the eye. Sure, they are pretty to look at and air-tight, which protect the leaves from light and keeps the tea fresh. But they also have a story to tell, again and again and again…

Our tea tins are made from steel the most recyclable packaging material in the world. While other materials like plastic promote recycling, steel is among the highest sustainable form of packaging as it is a completely and endlessly recyclable loop of steel to steel, with no loss of its original properties regardless of how many times it is recycled. The Environmental Protection Agency's ReCon model reports that steel cans have the highest recycle rate of any materials, more than two-and-a-half times higher than that of most other packaging options followed by paper, paperboard, and then aluminum cans. With no loss of durability or alteration in quality and no limit to the number of times steel can be transformed, steel is infinitely reusable. No wonder steel ranks as today’s most desirable, convenient, and environmentally friendly package.

Steel recycling requires 95 percent less energy generates 95 percent less emissions and creates 97 percent less pollution than generating new metal from ore. These energy savings also translate into reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. At the present time, about 18 billion tons of steel are in use, somewhere, somehow and therefore will be available in the future for recycling.

While we encourage you to reuse Zhena’s Gypsy Tea tins with refills of our delicious teas, please recycle them since most steel produced today utilizes some form of recycled content—the stove that so effortlessly boils the water for your tea is probably manufactured with recycled steel!
